What is Vedic Meditation?
I teach Vedic Meditation, it dates back 5000 years ago and originated in India. It is in the same tradition as Transcendental Meditation, however Vedic Meditation is not trade marked – we are a group of independent teachers teaching the most effective, scientifically proven technique of meditation. It’s a simple technique which needs to be taught in person in order to be taught correctly.
The course I teach is a 6 hour course run over 2-4 consecutive days with a follow up session a week or two later by phone/skype or in person. The course fee also includes access to any group meditations I hold, ability to do a refresher course at anytime and indefinite lifetime support. The ongoing support is very important as many meditation courses do not offer this and leave people on their own. It’s important to have access to a teacher to help you understand your practice and make any adjustments. I’m a fully-trained (in person) teacher who knows how to deal with anything that might come up during your practice. People release stress in different ways and need individual support to help them get the most out their meditation. I’ve been practicing and studying Vedic Meditation for 20 years so I have an in depthunderstanding of meditation and it’s benefits.
The first session is when I explain the basics of the technique and give you a mantra chosen specifically for you, which is part of the technique. I perform a short ceremony, not religious but somewhat spiritual. I ask clients to bring a bunch of flowers and 3 pieces of sweet fruit, this is a traditional offering and part of the ceremony. If you like ceremonies you’ll enjoy it, if you don’t, then don’t worry it’s super short.
The following sessions are where we will look at refining your technique, practise meditation together and I will teach you how best to integrate the technique into your daily life. If you can breathe and think, you can meditate. You simply sit in a chair with your eyes closed for 20 minutes twice a day and I promise you will experience profound shifts in your stress levels, which will then improve so many areas of your life. You will have the technique for the rest of your life, it’s a great portable skill to have in your life tool kit and I am available for follow up anytime to help you with your practice, this is included in the course fee.
In terms of the benefits of meditation these are scientifically proven to help with everything from alleviating anxiety and depression, to aiding in health issues such as high pressure (50% of people who meditate can go off their blood pressure medication). Meditation helps with insomnia, digestive issues, headaches, migraines, etc. It helps reduce stress and therefore any health condition that is worsened by stress will be alleviated or improved. It’s great when you want to form new healthy habits, such as cutting down on alcohol, etc. And is proven to help with anti-anging as it lengthens telomeres and promotes neurogenesis (growth of new brain cells).
In general, meditation allows people to experience ‘the flow state’ more often and be a better version of themselves through the removal of accumulated stress. People also report having better clarity and the ability to make the ‘right’ decisions more quickly and swiftly after learning to meditate which is why many high-level executives and elite athletes use meditation to enhance their performance.
Vedic Meditation makes you great at what you are already really good at.
